From a small beginning in May 1932, the Methodist Crusaders Choir, then with 75 choristers, was hurriedly formed and made its first public appearance at the General Conference Meetings of the Methodist Church of Australasia. It is primarily a hymn-singing choir, and the devoted members feel that the main purpose in their coming together is to spread the gospel message of the Church by means of song. Ralph Washington Sockman (1889-1970) was an American Protestant clergyman, educator, and radio personality. For many years he was the featured speaker on the weekly NBC radio program National Radio Pulpit, which aired from 1928 to 1962.
